Central Command Training

Intro · Welcome aboard
Claire: Welcome to the bridge, and welcome to Central Command.
Claire: I'm Admiral Claire Vasquez, Chief Information Officer.
Claire: You're our newest member, and we're glad to have you aboard.
Marcus: Commander Marcus Reed, Chief Information Security Officer. I keep watch on the threats.
Diego: Lieutenant Commander Diego Ramos, Head of Infrastructure. If it runs, hums, or connects, it's mine.
Grace: Commodore Grace Nguyen, Head of Finance. I keep us funded, and the numbers honest.
Claire: And right on cue, another transmission from the fleet.
Claire: It's always busy up here. Stick with us, and we'll show you the ropes.
Claire: This is Pelypso University, course CC-101: Central Command Training.
Dive 01 · How Command works
Claire: Every operation in the fleet is run by a Mission Lead.
Claire: Their Field Team spots the risks, and the Mission Lead grades them and steers.
Claire: We don't take the helm. We expect Mission Leads to act on their own.
Marcus: But Mission Leads are authorized to escalate risks that need special attention to Central Command.
Marcus: A decision, additional funding, or to get something unblocked.
Diego: When that transmission arrives, each of us brings a different eye. Security, infrastructure, and finance.
Grace: And we answer. Fast, clearly, and always offer a reason for any decision.
Claire: I'm the conductor.
Claire: Every operation plays its own part. Our job is to make it all come together.
Dive 02 · The Situation report
Claire: Your day starts in the Crow's Nest, with the Situation report.
Claire: It greets you with what matters: how many decisions are waiting on Command, and how many critical risks are out there across every operation.
Claire: Across the top, six readings.
Claire: The Enterprise risk index, which is the average score of every open risk, and its trend.
Claire: Critical risks. Decisions awaiting command.
Claire: Risks rising and falling.
Claire: Orders on track.
Claire: And register health: how many risks are owned and updated in the last fourteen days.
Claire: Click any of them for the full list behind the number.
Dive 03 · The radar of risk
Marcus: This is my favorite screen. The radar of risk.
Marcus: Every submarine gets a slice: one per operation.
Marcus: Every blip is a risk.
Marcus: The closer to the center, the more dangerous.
Marcus: Critical in the middle, then high, moderate, and low at the rim.
Marcus: Critical risks pulse.
Marcus: A white diamond means it's waiting on us.
Marcus: And the dashed trail shows where a risk moved in the last thirty days.
Marcus: Click a slice, and you zoom into that operation, cut by objective.
Marcus: Closest contacts, on the right, lists the risks nearest the center.
Marcus: If something's closing on us, I see it here first.
Dive 04 · Focus areas
Claire: With transmissions arriving all day, priorities compete.
Claire: Focus areas sorts them for us, highest priority first: act now, this month, or watch.
Diego: Overdue orders and risks gone quiet land here first.
Diego: Those are the ones that quietly sink an operation.
Marcus: And if one vendor is driving a big share of the exposure, it'll tell you to hold a vendor review.
Claire: Where risk concentrates shows which categories carry the weight, and how much the mitigation plans would cut.
Dive 05 · Dollars at risk
Grace: My turn. Dollars at risk.
Grace: Expected exposure is each risk's most likely cost times its probability, added up across every operation, and compared with the contingency reserve.
Grace: The next tile, If every risk hit, is what we'd pay if every risk came true, with each one's most likely cost added together.
Grace: Mitigation planned is what we're spending to bring it down.
Grace: And Missing a cost counts high and critical risks with no number yet.
Grace: Those are the ones that keep me up at night.
Grace: Below, each operation against its own reserve.
Grace: The black line is the reserve.
Grace: When a bar creeps toward it, I want to hear from that Mission Lead before it's formally escalated to us.
Dive 06 · Incoming: decisions with precision
Grace: Here they come. Awaiting command decision.
Grace: Each card shows the ask, the operation, the Mission Lead, and any additional funds requested.
Grace: Network Core Refresh needs $380,000 to buy the core switches early.
Diego: That's my territory. Those lead times are real.
Diego: If we wait for design sign-off, we miss the cutover.
Grace: Then let's decide. Review and decide.
Grace: Approve, request more information, or deny.
Grace: I always add a note: approved from the reserve, and send me the signed quote.
Marcus: My turn.
Marcus: This one's a security risk: the ParkPass booking API doesn't support OAuth yet.
Marcus: Before I accept that, I need to know what's exposed.
Marcus: So I request more information, and the Mission Lead hears it right away.
Claire: Deny works the same way. Always say why, so the Mission Lead can adjust.
Claire: Two decisions in under a minute, and the fleet keeps moving.
Dive 07 · Trusting the helm
Claire: Most problems never reach the bridge, and that's the point.
Claire: Handled by Mission Leads shows what they've resolved on their own in the last thirty days.
Diego: The Operations table groups every operation by campaign, riskiest first.
Diego: Select one to drill in: its trend, its risk map, and its top risks.
Marcus: We watch everything. We steer only when asked.
Dive 08 · A note from Gertrude
Grace: Every Monday morning, Gertrude, our mail clerk, sends us a digest.
Grace: Dollars at risk, critical risks, and every decision waiting on Central Command, with a button to review and decide.
Claire: Change how often it comes under Email digest.
Dive 09 · Welcome to Central Command
Claire: That's Central Command. Read the radar every day.
Marcus: Ask the hard question before you decide.
Diego: Keep an eye on what keeps the fleet running.
Grace: Decide fast, and always say why.
Claire: And trust your Mission Leads.
Claire: They run the operations. We help them through the toughest waters.
Marcus: And remember: risk is always out there. Even when the radar's quiet, keep watching.
Marcus: Speaking of which, another one's coming in.
Grace: Did anyone else feel that?
Claire: Then let's get to work. Welcome aboard. Central Command out.
